Revamp Your Closet

There are so many emotions we feel as we welcome a new year, and renewal is definitely one of them. It’s not the usual time of year that people clean out their closets, but Lindsey & Lilly have both always done their ‘spring cleaning’ at start of a new year.

It can be difficult letting go of items that once made your heart flutter. The month of January comes with a sense of rebirth & refurbishment, which is exactly what we like to do our closets. Sometimes we feel like we are in a clothing rut; staring at a closet FILLED with clothes, but with nothing to wear. Not only does a clean closet bring a sense of peace to your #SceneGirls, but it also reminds you of all the cute clothes have, but never wear.

Anticipating a Christmas complete with a new wardrobe, the #SceneGirls cleaned out their closets and donated their clothes Good Will.

1. De-clutter

The sooner you de-clutter, the sooner you make room for more fabulous clothes. There’s nothing worse than tangled hangers and falling t-shirts while you try to stuff your new stuff in. Also, no slip hangers are your best friend. We refuse to hang our clothes on anything else, it's a necessary life changer.

2. Ask Yourself

When was the last time I wore this and when will I ever wear this again? Why do I have 3 white cotton t-shirts that look exactly the same? This will also teach you a thing or two about your shopping habits, so you don't continue to make the same mistakes.

3. Do It All

Take it all out, everything. It's the only way to truly see everything you own. You’ll want to organize it all in one sitting, yes ALL of it, so make sure you set aside the time for your clothes, clutches, bags, gym clothes, swimsuits, jewelry...etc.

4. Identify

Identify your needs. You’ll quickly realize the staple items missing in your wardrobe. For example, when Lindsey cleaned out her closet, she realized she didn't have a good pair of black wedges, which was quickly solved over the holidays.

5. Gaining & Losing

If you have to gain or lose weight to pull something off, toss it. If it doesn’t currently fit you, it means you haven't worn it in awhile, which means goodbye.

6. My Style

Is this a piece of clothing that currently represents my style? If I was shopping right now, would I buy this for myself? If the answer is no, than say yes to the donation pile.

It sounds like a pain, but we promise you will be happy you did this. It makes a significant difference in your day to day quality of life, which is what we are all trying to improve on a daily basis! Happy Cleaning!
